Queen Elizabeth’s Notable Achievements

In celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, people throughout the UK will culminate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee this June 2 to 5.

This is a historic milestone since the Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate Platinum Jubilee. Throughout the years, The Queen has created so many memories and achievements for the peqople of the United Kingdom.

Here are among her most notable achievements:

She embraced modernization and change in the monarchy

Queen Elizabeth's reign involved many firsts for the British monarchy. This includes her coronation being broadcast from Westminster Abbey for the first time, the monarchy's website and Twitter account that didn't exist before her reign, and the Queen's traditional Christmas message being broadcast on YouTube.

She wanted people to see the royal family as approachable. So she appeared on television regularly and spoke to people directly. Then, in 1968, she decided to allow a documentary film crew to follow her and her family around for more than two months. The filmmakers' access to the Queen's private family life produced an infamous two-hour documentary called "The Royal Family."

She served in World War II.

Queen Elizabeth enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. The photos of her service and interactions with the military were used in the propaganda effort for the Allied forces.

She had an important role at an early age.

In 1944, at the young age of 18, Queen Elizabeth, who was still a princess at that time, was appointed a counsellor of state during the king's absence on a tour of the Italian battlefield. She carried out some duties as head of the state for the first time.

She bravely and wisely responds to terror.

On July 7, 2005, four suicide bombers attacked London's public transportation system, killing 56 people, including the bombers, and injuring hundreds. Queen Elizabeth addressed the country, saying, "Atrocities such as these simply reinforce our sense of community, our humanity and our trust in the rule of law."

She prepares the generations to come.

Queen Elizabeth has prepared generations of heirs in line for the monarchy.

The relationship between the new Republic of Ireland and its former imperial masters was marked by violence for decades.

Queen Elizabeth was the first Monarch to make an official visit to the island since its independence.
